The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) stands firmly with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in his call for all countries to settle disputes through peaceful means and not through conflict, and that they respect international security and justice at all times.

United Nations consideration of the culture of peace began in 1992 with the adoption by UNESCO of a Culture of Peace Programme. 

A culture of peace is an integral approach to preventing violence and violent conflicts and an alternative to the culture of war and violence based on education for peace.

(a) to empower individuals to choose the path of peace rather than the path of violence, and (b) to enable them to be peacemakers rather than consumers of peace. 

• Education for peace is, in this sense, an essential component of holistic basic education that aims at the comprehensive development of persons.
