Rachel Ignatius
Principal, The Choice School Tripunithura
About
Rachel Ignatius, who has been the principal of The Choice School, Thiruvalla, Kerala, for years, is known for her strong team-building skills, attention to detail and efficiency. She says, “I came to this profession by chance at the age of 26, and it is by choice that I stayed in the same. I have enjoyed every moment in the past 26 years. I see God’s hand in getting me to this position.” She says, “Nothing makes me prouder than to see my students succeed. As an academician, I realised students look up to us all the time. We need to be able to inspire the future generation, and mentor them continuously.”
She looks back at the year of 2020, as a year of resilience, reflection and transformation. “It actually has been a year of unlearning, relearning, adapting and implementing the best methods of technology-aided education.”
The pandemic has led to a complete shift in the paradigm of teachers and students. She says, “They actually found confidence, positivity and creativity in every task assigned to each one of them. We wouldn’t have done any of this without the help of our president, Jose Thomas, the academic leadership and the rest of the team.”
She recounts how the student community was the easiest to handle, during that time. “The teaching community was the one, who took the biggest leap. We have been successful in incorporating various teaching methodologies in bringing out the best from our students. We have literally celebrated every event from Independence Day, Onam, Diwali to Christmas. I have to mention the huge support from the parent community at this point of time.”
